June saw an uplift on the previous month with 23 transactions reported across the region. Cambridgeshire saw the most with seven, followed by Essex and Herts with six apiece.
Manufacturing continued its strong performance with five deals, including a further bolt on for The MEL Group with the acquisition of Oldbury Engineering. Other transactions in this sector included the sales of European Oat Millers, KMGP, Burall InfoSmart and Avingtrans. We think there is a lot of opportunity for M&A in this sector.
The other active sector was business support services which encompassed a broad range of businesses from telecoms (Swains) to software (The Access Group) and security (Aegis Integrated Security).
It was also great to see a few more acquisitions on the list this month led by East Anglian firms. With banks increasingly willing to lend, and plenty of funding available from the private equity sector, this really is a good time to be looking at growth through acquisition.

Management buy outs are another way of buying or selling a business – it is a sale of the business to a management team. However, in most cases, you as a group of managers will not have the funds to buy the business and will require assistance from banks, private equity and the vendor.
